Once, the introduction of memorized multiplication tables revolutionized the oral and written account. Prior to this, various clever ways of calculating products of single-valued numbers were used, which greatly slowed the whole process and served as a source of additional errors.

Perhaps the oldest multiplication tables in the world were found during excavations of the cities of Ancient Mesopotamia. They were painted with cuneiform on clay tablets, the age of which is 5000 years. So, most likely, the multiplication table appeared somewhere in those parts.

Although it is also possible that this oral account system has appeared independently in different places. So, to find out the name of the brilliant mathematician, who first thought of recording the results of multiplication in the form of a table, most likely, will not be possible.

Give out your kids or students interesting worksheets. Do not worry taht they will get bored, be sure – they won’t.
