Which people often encounter Greenstick Fracture?
A greenstick fracture defines a fracture which occurs in the soft bones. So, we can say that this problem is mostly seen in children and infants because their bones are flexible, soft and young. It is called by green because of the similarity with the breaking of a wood from outside. In this type of fracture, there is no completely a fracture, the bones crack and bend. Due to the softness of the bones, they don’t break into the few pieces. Adult people have less flexible bones so they may encounter the complete fractures in their bones but children’s bones are soft.
How long does it take to heal?
The doctor decides the duration of treatment. The treatment may be different according to the severity of the Greenstick Fracture. It is important that where is the fracture in the bond? How is the severity of the break? If there is a buckle fracture, the bone needs 3-4 weeks. Buckle fracture is also named as torus fracture. It is an advantage for the children that their bones are flexible and soft so their breaks heal sooner. When the same problem is seen in an adult, their duration of the recovery is doubled in compare to the children and infants.
Do you need a Cast for the healing duration?
This type of fracture is a threat for the bigger problems. Due to the related risk of breaking completely, these fractures generally need immobilizing in through a cast. The child’s age and break define the duration of the treatment. Generally, the child also gets some pain and sedation drugs may be effective for this situation. In these cases, the doctors may carry out the treatment with a removable splint. Removable splints are commonly used in better fractures which are mostly healed. The children are more comfortable with the splints because they can easily bath. In order to make a definite decision whether it is the right time to remove the cast, x-rays should be used. If the doctor decides that there is no need for the cast anymore according to the x-rays results; the cast treatment can be finished.
